Perkins New Power Gen Diesel Line

Perkins is launching a new range of diesel engines for the electric power generation market. The company said the new engines meet key market nodes and fills the gap between the company’s current 1300 and 2000 Series diesels.

The 1600 Series ElectropaK family comprises a range of full authority electronic control, turbocharged, air-to-air charge-cooled engines that have been developed to provide prime and standby power, with special emphasis placed on improved power density, reliability and robustness, said Perkins.

The six-cylinder, 9.3 L range offers outputs up to 300kVA (240 kWe) prime power and 330 kVA (264 kWe) standby power at 1500 r/min with the company adding that the intention is to release a 350kVA (280kWe) standby version later in the year.

Engines with ElectropaK specification are supplied with suitable radiators, charge coolers, air cleaners, pipes, hoses and mounting feet to provide a turnkey package that can be integrated directly with generating sets.

The company added that for OEMs and gen-set packagers the key benefits include the combination of higher power density and load acceptance, which effectively means that the 1600 Series can achieve outputs normally associated with much larger displacement engines, while offering a space saving opportunity during installation.

According to Perkins, with little or no derate the unit can produce its maximum output virtually anywhere in the world. Its global acceptability has also been enhanced through the simultaneous launch of versions for both non-regulated and EU 3 a territories. This versatility has been further increased with the inclusion of switchable models which both reduces parts inventory and supports the needs of the rental market.

In a separate move Perkins is also introducing a new range of its 400 Series ElectropaKs. Perkins said the that although it is established as a source of power for gen-set applications in regulated territories, the new line is targeted at lower and non-regulated countries.

The 400A range has been developed to provide cost effective power and the introduction of the 403A-15G2 model is particularly significant as it meets the all important 15kVA prime power node. Perkins said. This key node is normally met by using larger displacement engines, but the improved power density, made possible through mechanical governing, of the 403A-15G2 means it offers the same performance but in a smaller package size.

There are four new engines in total, all of which come in ElectropaK specification providing a turnkey package for direct integration into generating plant. The 403A-11G1 offers 9.2kVA prime power at 1500 rpm, the 403-15G1 is rated at 13.2kVA prime power, slightly less than its G2 counterpart, while the larger displacement 404A-22G1 completes the line up with 20.3kVA prime power on tap.
