Product Description:
SGX series based on EX gasoline engines, target wide range of commercial and consumer applications
Subaru has developed a new line of generator sets targeting a wide range of portable power generation applications. The new Subaru SGX generators are available in three outputs and target a variety of users, from professional construction contractors to homeowners.
The new Subaru SGX gen-sets are intended to provide many of the same features of the existing Subaru RGX line of industrial generators, but at a lower price point. All of the new gen-sets are driven by Subaru EX industrial gasoline engines, which have been used in power generation applications since 2004.
The EX engines are single, slant cylinder engines with cast-aluminum blocks, float-type carburetors and mechanical governors. The combustion chamber of the EX engine incorporates a high-efficiency pent-roof design in which the top of the chamber is angled to position the intake and exhaust valves at an angle relative to the center of the cylinder. “This configuration, which also incorporates an optimized intake and exhaust system, is engineered to intensify the air intake and fuel-air mixing while reducing dead volume and eliminating flow losses,” said Pam Meyer, Subaru’s equipment sales manager.
Other premium engine features include special heat dissipation fins on the inner and outer crankcase surfaces and cooling passages and fins in the mounting base. A splash lubrication system with an oil scraper on the connecting rod supplies oil to the cam chain.
The engines directly drive self exciting, two-pole single-phase generators that deliver 120/240 Vac at 60 Hz. The generators feature high performance copper windings with maximum surge capacity, and automatic voltage regulation systems are standard on all models. The AVR systems are designed to provide a precise voltage control output, making the gen-sets able to power both contractor power tools as well as more sensitive equipment such as personal computers and consumer electronics, the company said.
The SGX3500 gen-set is driven by an EX21 engine rated at 7.0 hp, resulting in a maximum electrical output of 3.5 kW. With a 4.0 gal. fuel tank, it can deliver rated output for eight hours, Meyer said.
The SGX5000 gen-set incorporates an EX30 engine rated at 9.5 hp, which provides a maximum output of 4.9 kW. Fuel tank capacity is 7.0 gal., providing a continuous runtime of 9.4 hours at the rated load.
At the top of the line, the SGX7500E gen-set is driven by an EX40 engine, rated at 14 hp, and provides a maximum output of 7.3. With an 8.0 gal. fuel tank, it offers a continuous runtime of seven hours at rated load, the company said.
The SGX7500E includes an electric starting system with recoil backup. The two smaller gen-sets have recoil starting systems. All of the SGX units are constructed of heavy-duty steel with steel fuel tanks.
The SGX gen-sets are equipped with OSHA-compliant ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) receptacles, and twist lock receptacles are also included for enhanced safety. Other standard features include low-tone muffler with U.S. Forestry Service approved spark arrestors, low oil level sensor with automatic shutoff, high visibility fuel gauge, hour meter and a two-wheel kit for enhanced portability. The SGX7500E includes a low-oil alert light on the control panel.
The SGX generators are Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certified to meet electrical safety standards. All models are backed by Subaru’s three-year warranty, which covers both the engine and generator.
Subaru engines and power products are marketed and supported in North America by Robin America Inc., a subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries. The new units are assembled in China in a modern facility under Subaru quality control standards for both local and Japanese components. This, the company said, has allowed Subaru to ensure product quality and meet target pricing goals. The new gen-sets are available through the
Robin America Distribution Network
